This scholarship is established for young pilots pursuing their Private Pilot's License at an accredited pilot training program at the Waterloo Airport, Independence Airport, Oelwein Airport, or Waverly Airport. This scholarship shall award $1,000 to eligible candidates, as long as there are sufficient assets in the Fund. A maximum of 5 awards can be offered in a calendar year.

Additionally, this Fund will also benefit Black Hawk County Veteran Affairs or similar organizations serving or honoring Black Hawk County Veterans such as Cedar Valley Honor Flights, Sullivan Brothers AMVET post, the Veteran’s Way project, or other programs associated with the Sullivan Brothers.

This scholarship honors Liz Crowley, a long-time educator in Waterloo. She served as the first principal at the Dr. Walter Cunningham School for Excellence. She molded a positive and enthusiastic staff as she initiated innovative practices including a year-round calendar, same sex classrooms, enhanced parent commitment, and implemented the first Waterloo Leader In Me program. Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to applicants graduating from East, West, or Expo in Waterloo, pursuing a degree in education, maintaining a minimum 3.0 grade point and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution as a full-time student.

Mother Moon Service Scholarship Fund

The scholarship was established in honor of Mother Moon, who raised not only her 10 children, but was a de facto mother to many poor, disadvantaged and other neighborhood kids, including Ike Leighty. This scholarship will recognize students who are quietly and actively engaged in their community. Seven $1,000 scholarships will be awarded annually in partnership with Waterloo Youth City Council to help with the cost of advanced education for students graduating from East High, West High, Columbus, or Expo. Eligible students have a minimum 3.0 GPA, are attending a 2 or 4-year post secondary institution, and have given a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service to the community in the prior 12 months. A preference will be given toward first-generation college students or students with demonstrated financial need.

Professional Office Services, Inc. (POS) offers $1,000 post-secondary scholarships to dependents of full-time POS employees at each plant location (Iowa, Florida, Minnesota, Utah, and Pittsburgh). Special considering will be given toward applicants currently holding positions of leadership.

This scholarship was established in honor of Todd Brekke. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who has similar talents that Todd possessed. Eligible students will be enrolled at East, West, or Expo High School or a member of the Waterloo Warriors Hockey Team. They are planning to attend post-secondary school full-time and pursuing a career in industrial or graphic design or a skilled grade area such as auto repair/mechanics, electrical, welding, or carpentry.

Tyler had cerebral palsy and other disabilities, which he fully embraced, and he shared his message of Ability Awareness around the world. This Fund also distributes to the Tyler Greene Scholarship Fund.

Established by VGM Group, this $1,500 scholarship is offered to their student employees and students of full-time employees. Applicants must be a senior in high school and planning to pursue a degree at an accredited post-secondary institution and maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA. Scholarship applications are independently reviewed by Foundation volunteers.

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in a 2 or 4 year public institution in Iowa, maintaining a minimum 3.3 GPA, and showing involvement in extra-curricular activities, volunteer service, or work. Preference will be given to applicants with financial need, as demonstrated in their FAFSA.

The scholarship was established to recognize volunteerism in students. One $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to students graduating from West High, East High, or Expo and attending full-time at the University of Iowa, UNI, Iowa State University, or an Iowa community college. Eligible students are pursuing a major in a STEM field, are maintaining a minimum 2.9 GPA, and have given a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer service to the community in the prior 12 months.
